Bonjour. Destination Akaroa is a new company founded in 2006 specifi cally to cater for independent travellers to the Banks Peninsula.
Specialising in Fishing and Dive Charters along with U Drive Boat hire and the hire of fishing and waterski equipment. We are passionate about the Peninsula and have made our home in Akaroa.
Akaroa is a unique town with many french influenced historic buildings, narrow streets, fluttering tri colores and bilingual signage.
Famous for its hector dolphins and nature cruises, Akaroa has grown as a tourist destination and offers a great selection of accommodation, activities, restaurants, cafes, shops and galleries.
On the harbour you can swim with the dolphins, go fishing, hire a boat, sea kayak and sail on a classic 85 year old, 50ft rigged ketch.
For those who prefer to stay on land there are plenty of activities to enjoy - Guided tours to the inner and outer bays. A penguin/seal colony and a Banks Peninsula country farm. Hire a moped or rental car and explore the back streets of Akaroa village and the many bays and settlements which fringe the harbour.
FISHING and DIVE CHARTERS
Eighty percent of fish are caught within 200 metres of shore.
We target bottom feeding fish: Blue and red cod, Trumpeter, Gurnard, Wrasse, School Shark and Kahawai...
The occassional Kingfish and Salmon are also caught in the harbour. The best fi shing is between November and May but the season is all year round. Fishing charters are subject to weather conditions, but experience has shown that seldom are there two days in a row when you cannot go fishing in Akaroa.
Half Day Fishing Charters
Duration 3.5 hours. $130 per person.
Full Day Fishing Charters
Duration 7 hours. $225 per person.
Both charters include use of rod, tackle and bait. Toilet on board. Guests to take their own refreshments.
No licences required for sea fishing in New Zealand.
